Suspect in Craig woman’s murder held

Police investigations have led to the capture of one of three men seen entering the yard of Sita Reddy, shortly before she was found dead in her home with her throat slit.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News yesterday that the man was arrested on Monday. He is to be placed on an identification parade shortly.

On February 1, Reddy, 54, of Lot 139 Second Street, was found in the lower flat of her ransacked two-storey house around 2:10 pm. Her throat was slashed and there were stab wounds about her body, which was found by her husband.

Her son-in-law Brian Hiraman had told reporters that his mother-in-law recently started a chicken business and that persons would go to the house to make purchases. A young man had recalled seeing three men entering the yard to make a purchase. It was sometime later that screams rang out.

Over $1.5 million in cash and jewellery including her wedding ring and foot band were reported missing.

Hours after the discovery, police arrested Reddy’s husband after investigators found inconsistencies in a statement he had given. He was released on station bail several days later.
