18-year-old committed two knife-point robberies on Waterloo St – court told

An 18-year-old construction worker who appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday on two counts of robbery under arms was put on $40,000 bail by Magistrate Allan Wilson but he has to report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday at 9:00am.

It is alleged that Osapho Johnson  on April 9 on Waterloo Street, being armed with a knife, robbed Marcelle and Hermi Roberts of a quantity of cash and other valuables totaling over $190,000.

Attorney George Thomas who represented Johnson said that his client  is a construction worker who lives with his parents in East Ruimveldt and he is not a flight risk and there is no reason to deny him his pre-trial liberty.

Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, had no objections to bail but asked that  conditions be attached requiring the accused to report to the police  and this was granted.

Johnson  is scheduled to return to court on May 3.
