Injured schoolgirl recovering

Akeisha Jackman, the 16-year-old Brickdam Secondary School student who was struck down about two weeks ago was discharged from the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Georgetown Hospital on Friday her mother, Althea Jackman, said on Saturday.

She is currently recovering at home but still has severe headaches. Her mother also told this newspaper that she will have to return to the hospital for regular checkups in the coming weeks and would be unable to attend school in the near future.

Akeisha was hit by a car as she was about to cross on a pedestrian crossing at Flour Mill Road, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, on her way home from school.

She had reportedly stepped out of a bus and was at the pedestrian crossing waiting to cross when she was hit by the car.

The driver of the car was taken into police custody after the accident but was subsequently released on station bail, her mother said.
