Guyana to get energy advice from Clinton Foundation

The Government of Guyana is expected to benefit from expert advice on renewable energy possibilities with the signing of a pact with the Clinton Foundation’s Climate Initiative yesterday.

The signing, which was done by Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds, and Director of Clean Energy from the foundation, Jan Hartke, commits the Clinton Foundation to the service of the Guyana government in an advisory capacity with a team of experts in business, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a press release.

The release also quoted Hartke as saying that the team of experts will package programmes for renewable energy that have a commercial capacity to attract major financing. He also added “the political leadership here has shown vision and has shown a commitment to the communities to make sure that they know what was going on…I think that kind of political leadership is one of the things that the Clinton Climate Initiative is all about.”

President Donald Ramotar, who witnessed the signing, said “we are deeply interested in renewable energy,” as he made reference to the heavy cost incurred to import fuel the release added. He said “now that we have developed to such a stage… I think that we can benefit in cutting down that cost and using clean energy with what is now demanded of the world today with all the problems of climate change and other issues.”

The Clinton Climate Initiative was launched in August 2006 to fight against climate change.
