Dem Amstel Bolts get past Eagles 58-55

In a night when double-doubles seemed to be a norm, Dem Amstel Bolts held on to narrowly defeat Eagles Basketball Club 58-55 as  the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Basketball League continued at the Burnham Hard Courts last Saturday.

In the close game all the way to the final minute, Eagles had their chance to take the lead but were unable to due to their passive play in the final minutes of the game which allowed Bolts to see the game through  with a three-point victory.

While Severey Austin had a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds he displayed bad shot selection as he shot 11 of 34 from the field. His teammate Michael Clarke also contributed to the victory, scoring 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds as well.

Mark Willis was outstanding for Eagles in the losing cause connecting on 10 of his 20 shots from the field at .500 percent shooting ending with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

In the second game on Saturday Pepsi Sonics outhustled Guardians Basketball Club to walk away with a 52-45 victory.

Sonics grabbed 49 rebounds with 17 being offensive rebounds while limiting Guardians to 26 rebounds which only had one offensive rebound on their stat sheet.

However, not only did Sonics out rebound Guardians but made most of their opportunities as their top players Ryan ‘Showtime’ Melville and Earl Oniel shot the ball over 50 percent as Melville went 7 of 13 from the field for 16 points while Oneil went 6 of 11 from the field for 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, games will continue this weekend at the Burnham Hard Courts.
