BCB’s first vice-president Richardson resigns

HAMILTON, Bermuda,  CMC – Allen Richardson has resigned as first vice-president of the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) ahead of the new season starting this weekend but has declined to comment on his departure.

BCB president Lloyd Fray said Richardson’s resignation was to be discussed at an executive meeting on Monday night but was not immediately available for further comment. Richardson, a former top batsman, announced his intention to run for the BCB presidency before the BCB’s last annual meeting but withdrew from the race at the last minute.

“It would have been nice to be in the running, but I feel that I don’t want all the headaches that I will run into,” he said afterwards. “After a while I looked at the whole picture and saw what was going on and didn’t like it and said to myself, ‘do I have enough time and energy to focus on all the things that come with that job’?”

After Fray’s landslide win to succeed Reggie Pearman, Richardson changed his tune and threw his support behind the new president.

“I am happy that it is him (Fray) that was voted in,” he said. “I think cricket will benefit a lot from him and I will give him my full support.”
