DCC ‘A’ defeats ‘B’ team in Brainstreet U-15 competition

Demerara Cricket Club’s `A’ team showed why they are rated ahead of their `B’ side when they defeated them comfortably by 53 runs in the seventh round game of the Brainstreet U-15 competition which was played last weekend.

The initial game between the two sides, who are both among the top four sides in the competition, was washed out.
The `B’ side scored 102 all out in 29.2 overs as Keanu Harry collected 4 for 42 from 8 overs. He was supported by Travis Persaud who took 2 for 17, after Tevin Imlach, who scored 76 from 107 balls and Namunchandra Persaud whose 48 from 120 balls, had batted the `A’ team to 156-1 in 39.3 overs.  Everest Cricket Club drew with Queen’s College as the nation’s top high school remained competitive against the club sides of their age group.

Everest scored 209-9 in 35 overs as captain Sherfayne Rutherford scored 53 from just 40 deliveries.  Hardat Singh supported with 57 from 42 balls and Sahadeo Ramkellawan had 32 from 31 balls. Davendra Mohabeer bagged 3 for 37 from four overs. In reply, QC reached 184-7 from 25 overs. Amil Alli made 32 to support Ryan Fung’s aggressive 88 from 63 balls, which included 12  fours and three sixes. Leading bowler in the tournament Shameer Khan had earlier taken 4 for 41 for QC.

Bel Air Texaco defeated DCC `B’ by three wickets. DCC `B’ scored 133 all out in 42.3 overs with Xaviee Smith having the top score of 38 as Bel Air Texaco beefed their chase with 61 extras. Ronaldo Renee collected 3 for 7 from four overs to help DCC get close to victory, but a brutal 82 from Andre Gomez from just 49 balls took Bel Air Texaco to 134-7 in 20.1 overs.   His innings included five fours and eight sixes and the dominance was evident as the next highest score was 11. Ganesh Balkarran had earlier taken 4 for 23 from nine overs for the team from Bel Air with Gomes taking 2 for 10 from 6.3 overs.

Maleness Sports Club showed an improved performance as they drew with the Georgetown Cricket Club. MSC made 129 for 5 in 25 over’s as dependable skipper Shaquille Moseley hit 80 not out with eight fours and six sixes. Moseley then took 3 for 13 from 3 over to aid his side in restricting GCC to 70 for 7 in 15 overs. Samuel McKenzie 2 and Shamar Graham 2 had earlier taken 2 wickets apiece for GCC as only Tariq Dharamlall reached exactly 20.

Queen’s College beat Bel Air Texaco by 15 runs. QC scored 151 all out in 30.5 overs. Jayadev Mana, the second leading wicket taker in the tournament made 53 with six fours and two sixes. Shameer Khan extended his lead at the top of the wickets table by taking 4 for 19 from 10 overs which included three maidens. Bel Air Texaco were bowled out for 136-10 in 41.4 overs. Andre Gomez made 36 and Akshay Rampersaud, 27. Captain Parmanand Sanicharan had previously taken 5 for 47 from 10 overs when QC batted.
