Both Persaud and Majeed received plaques and monetary gifts from the bank yesterday at the main branch in New Market Street.

Registrar of the University of Guyana Vincent Alexander said the university was proud to be a part of such an initiative and looked forward for many more successes in the near future.

Alexander however pointed out that the number of male achievers is decreasing daily at the tertiary level of education and stressed that more needs to be done to address this.

The awards were made possible through Republic Bank’s ‘Power to make a Difference’ initiative in partnership with the University of Guyana.

The venture, which commenced several years ago, seeks to ignite the potential of Guyana’s youth through varying rewards and development programmes.

In a release, Republic Bank noted that the university continues to benefit from the bank’s social investment initiatives in areas such as the sponsorship of a student scholarship and subscription to business journals.
