Republic Banks honours UG best graduating students

At a simple ceremony hosted at its Promenade Court in New Market Street, Georgetown Nelsonia Persaud-Budhram received the Bank’s Chairman’s Award along with $150,000 and Omeeta Roopchan received the its Best Student for Banking and Financing plaque and $100,000. The honours were given out under the Bank’s Power to Make a Difference community outreach programme.

Republic Bank honoured the Best Graduating Student with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Best Graduating Student with a Diploma in Banking and Finance of the University of Guyana with a plaque and monetary prize on Friday.

“Without a doubt, today’s award recipients aptly reflect the power of potential which holds a bright promise for Guyana’s continuing development,” Managing Director John Alves said in his address. “Nelsonia Persaud-Budhram and Omeeta Roopchan, we applaud you both for your outstanding achievement and the inherent promise for our nation’s future.

We are particularly proud of Omeeta who also happens to be a member of the Republic Bank family and is attached to our Anna Regina branch,” he added.

UG Vice Chancellor Lawrence Carrington, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr Marlene Cox, Registrar Vincent Alexander, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences O’Neil Greaves and  Ministry of Education Assistant Chief Education Officer – Primary –  Melcita Bovell also attended the ceremony.
