Cops still to identify suspect in Meadowbrook slaying -Crime Chief

Investigators have so far found nothing in the lifestyle of Dave Wills that can provide answers to why he was executed, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said yesterday.

Persaud told Stabroek News that no suspect has so far been identified and no new details have emerged as to the motive for the well-planned attack at the Lot 1002 Meadowbrook address where Wills had been staying with a friend.

Wills’ friend and another man who was in the house at the time of the shooting were arrested for questioning but later released on bail.

A source close to the dead man’s family had said that it was too much of a coincidence that the duo got up and went into another room moments before gunmen burst through the front door and riddled Wills with bullets.

Based on the information provided to this newspaper, Wills, 33, was associated with businessman Imtiaz Roopnaraine, called ‘Bobby’ and Ricardo Rodrigues, who were killed in January and last October, respectively.

Asked whether there may be a link between the three killings, Persaud said that he is unaware of the investigators thinking along those lines. He added that different weapons were used in the Roopnarine and Wills’ killings.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination on Wills’ body scheduled for yesterday has been postponed until tomorrow.
A source close to the family had expressed little hope of the case being solved and the family getting justice if the two men held were released.

Police officials indicated that the killing was sparked by a fall out with his associates, who have links with the underworld.
The police said Wills had been deported from the United States after serving time for drug trafficking six years ago.
