Group condemns verbal assault of Guyana Times sports reporter

A group calling itself the Stakeholders of Guyana’s Cricket yesterday condemned the verbal assault on Guyana Times sports reporter Rajiv Bisnauth and is calling on the relevant authorities to prosecute the recently installed Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) president Drubahadur.

According to Wednesday’s Guyana Times, Drubahur”launched a foul-mouthed tirade against the journalist (Rajiv Bisnauth) on Tuesday in front of the Windjammer Hotel.

“After the sordid episodes of the illegal elections, the blatant disregard of injunctions and the hijacking of the GCB this latest episode has sunk our national game to an all-time low,” the cricket stakeholders stated in a press release.

“The persons holding themselves out as officers of the GCB are making a mockery of our cricket as they continue their illegal hold of the GCB.
“We are heartened by the fact that media organisations in Guyana, the region and further afield have been duly informed of Drubahadur’s abuse of a reporter in the execution of his duties.

“We trust that, as this disgraceful incident is now in the public domain, the Commissioner of Police will take affirmative action by having Drubahadur answer to the court for this clear act of lawlessness. Media Personnel must be protected from such hostilities,” the group declared.

“We call on the West Indies Cricket Board to urgently intervene in Guyana’s cricket in order for proper and legal elections to be held involving all stakeholders, and for a decent and responsible GCB to be installed,” the group added.

Contacted for a comment Drubahadur said he was advised not to issue any statement on the matter.
