Government should address the socio-economic needs of young Guyanese

Dear Editor,

In a follow-up to my last letter pertaining to the persistently high crime wave in Guyana, I want to express my full support for the recent expressions of former army chief Joe Singh on this topic.

I also feel that while finding ways and means to stem the current crime wave, the PPP/C administration has to address the socio-economic needs of young Guyanese, especially in terms of supplying them with training and employment opportunities.

In closing, I want to repeat earlier calls that I have made for a commission of inquiry to look into the spate of murders that took place in Guyana during the early 2000s because I am certain that such a commission’s report would identify the core reasons that led up to the current crime wave while proposing solutions to reduce it.

I am also calling for an examination into the flow of guns throughout our beloved Guyana.

Yours faithfully,
Morris Wilson
