Armed robbery accused found dead with gunshots

Police say that at about 0600h today, the partly decomposed body of Gary Deflorimonte called ‘Saddam’, 27 years, of Plaisance Housing Scheme, ECD, was found behind his premises with suspected gunshot injuries.

The body is at the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a PME as the investigations continue.

Police say that Deflorimonte was before the courts on several charges of robbery under arms and a charge of discharging loaded firearm with intent. He was also wanted for questioning into recent reports of robberies and threats involving the use of a firearm.

In December 2010, several members of a Joint Services patrol came under fire while pursuing Deflorimonte in the Plaisance Squatting area.

The police had said then that a patrol encountered Deflorimonte who was wanted for questioning on a number of matters. He was among a group of men gaming at the Plaisance Squatting area.  The police stated that Deflorimonte ran from the scene and was pursued by ranks during which he discharged several rounds at them. The man managed to elude the lawmen.
