I have been watching the new channel CCTV quite regularly since it began broadcasting a short while ago in Guyana, and I have to say that I am highly impressed with the quality and objectivity of the coverage of international events.
Unlike CNN and the BBC which are more North American and eurocentric in their coverage and interpretation of news and events, CCTV is much more balanced and global in its outlook, and in my view, also free from cultural biases which at times seem evident from the other major news channels.
The Government of Guyana should be commended for bringing to the Guyanese public greater variety and new perspectives on global affairs which the new CCTV channel is doing so well.
May I also commend the administration for the introduction of the Guyana Learning Channel which is doing well in reinforcing and expanding the knowledge base of students and for that matter, the Guyanese people as a whole.
