With all due respect to the Caricom Secretariat, the announcement of Mr Naresh Singh’s appointment as Deputy Secretary General seemed to have been contingent upon that of his professionalism being publicly queried by his former employer.
That the recruitment process was in train over a five-month period seemed to be as much a surprise to some Caricom staff as it was to the public.
It is this communication gap which provides pause for reflection, for curiously none of the information published on this matter made reference to other contenders for the position of Deputy Secretary General, which was only recently vacated by the last incumbent – a nuanced abdication of individual and group responsibility, which leaves the SG red-faced about a candidate who was in fact a former Caricom employee.
