NTN launches radio station

NTN Channel 69 has launched its radio station 89.1 FM, which, it said, will be broadcast every hour of the day throughout the length and breadth of Guyana.

The launching took place on Friday evening and is expected to bring a different taste to listeners across the country. The new channel will offer a variety of programmes that will cater for all audiences.

It is also expected to broadcast programmes that are edgy, creative and different, according to NTN television host, Joel Ghansham, who will be hosting a programme called the “Dirty Truth,” which will be focused on social issues and entertainment.

In delivering the feature address at the launching, President Donald Ramotar stated that he expects the new venture to enrich lives and entertain, while adding that we are fortunate to be living in a multicultural society.

Persons can also access the radio broadcasts online at ntntv-radio.com. NTN’s 89.1 FM is the second radio station to start broadcasting after several radio licences were granted last year.

Privately-owned Radio Guyana Inc (RGI) was officially launched last December but questions remain about the basis on which its licence was issued. RGI is part of a media group which also includes TV Guyana and the Guyana Times, all owned by Queens Atlantic Investment Inc in which Dr Ranjisinghi Ramroop is a principal.

The granting of radio licences have attracted criticism from various persons as regards the process used as the claim is that licences were granted to those affiliated with the government.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon had stated, when asked about the granting of these licences, that three criteria were considered and if “government-friendly individuals” met them then their applications would have been granted.
