$5,000 bail for man charged with breaking $500 padlock

Mon Repos resident Rabindra Singh was yesterday charged with breaking a padlock belonging to his elderly mother.

Singh, who appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court charged with property damage, was released on $5,000 bail although the padlock’s value was given as $500.

It was alleged that on March 13, Singh, 50, of Lot 47 Second Street, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, broke the padlock that belonged to Radika Singh.

The man initially admitted his guilt but a not guilty plea was recorded on his behalf after he offered an explanation for his action. Singh told the court that he lives with his 74-year-old mother and that he broke the lock and entered her room to change a circuit breaker.

The case has been adjourned until March 21, when it will be called for reports and fixtures.
