La Penitence couple charged with assaulting each other

Magistrate Judy Latchman granted a man $80,000 bail and the mother of his child $45,000 bail when they yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with assaulting each other.

The allegation against Delon Cadogan, 23, is that on March 17, at North East La Penitence he assaulted 21-year-old Novotan Robinson so as to cause her actual bodily harm. Cadogan pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Robinson was also charged with damaging property.

Lance Corporal Renetta Bentham told the court that Robinson suffered swelling to her face and lacerations to the neck. She did not object to Cadogan being granted bail, but asked the court to put him on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.
Cadogan was released on $80,000 bail and placed on a bond to keep the peace.

Meanwhile, Robinson pleaded guilty to the charge that she assaulted Cadogan, on the said date and location. She also offered an explanation to the court.
In her defence Robinson said that she slapped Cadogan and held onto his T-shirt when he became violent with her. She also said that she broke two mirrors. Robinson said she and Cadogan have a two-month-old child together.

The prosecutor told the court that Robinson dealt Cadogan several lashes about his body with a piece of wood. The woman was also charged with damaging two mirrors and a computer valued $25,000, the property of Cadogan but she pleaded not guilty to the second charge.

There were no objections to Robinson being granted her pre-trial liberty and the court granted her $20,000 bail on the assault charge and $25,000 bail on the damage to property charge.
The matter will be called again on April 15.
