Neville Annibourne was likeable and truly Guyanese to the core

Dear Editor,

I met veteran pre-independence journalist Mr Neville Annibourne a few times and learnt of his sad passing on Sunday. He was a very pleasant gentleman.

He had the warmest smile the first time we met. I was rather taken aback by a ‘stranger’ being so friendly. Later I learned he was involved in politics as a strong PPP supporter. I believe he headed the PYO at one time, but I am not sure.

After the Jim Jones episode I used to tease him about running away into the bush after he came under gunfire. He didn’t seem to mind. Is this how you plan to defend your socialist revolution man? It was always a source of much mirth between us.

He gave a vivid firsthand account of the scary and intimidating encampment which led to the Jim Jones tragedy.

Neville was very likeable and truly Guyanese to the core. He earned my respect.

My sympathies to his entire extended    family.
RIP

Yours faithfully,
Sultan Mohamed
