Marian Academy capture three YBG conference titles

Marian Academy was presented with their Youth Basketball Guyana’s (YBG) Georgetown U14, U17 and U20 conference titles at a simple presentation ceremony held at the school’s auditorium, Carifesta Avenue on Sunday.

Marian clinched its third consecutive U20 conference title following its recent demolition of Georgetown Technical Institute (GTI) on home court by a 56-19 scoreline on Saturday.

The Carifesta side would bag every individual award to complete an all round dominant display in the Georgetown U20 division. Selvaughn Mosley was awarded the Georgetown conference’s most valuable player (MVP). Mosley would also collect the conference’s best rebounder and best scorer awards.

Keiron Braithwait and Dominic Vicente completed the clean sweep for Marian Academy as they collected the conference’s most assists and best defender accolades respectively.

Plaisance Secondary was presented with the U20 East Coast conference title following their win over the University of Guyana (UG) in the conference final by a 54-36 margin at the Marian Academy hard court on Saturday.

On the individual side, talismanic Plaisance shooting guard Nikkoloi Smith was presented with the conference’s MVP award for his all-round exploits. Smith also collected the conference’s best scorer and best defender awards. Quincy Easton of UG won the most assists award for the conference.

In the U17 category, Marian Academy was presented with the Georgetown Conference title while President’s College collected the East Coast Title. Marian would also collect the U14 Georgetown Division title.

In the U17 individual category, Eli Inniss and Jaleel Duke of President’s College, Christopher Joao and Judah Stephney of Marian Academy, Afernee Jarvis of St. Roses High, Daniel Ramlagan of The Bishops High and Shemar Thomas of the East Bank were each presented with an outstanding player of the division award.

Andrew Johnson of Plaisance Secondary and Jonathan Mangra and Jaleel Young of Marian Academy each collected an outstanding U14 player award for their play.
