Overseas pensioners have to submit a notarized Life Certificate at least once a year

Dear Editor,

Please allow me to respond to the letter bearing the caption ‘NIS benefits problem,’ which was published in the Monday, July 8, 2013 edition of Stabroek News.

Please be advised that each overseas pensioner is required to submit a notarized Life Certificate at least once per year.  Failure to do so would result in our computer automatically suspending any outstanding and future payments for such a person.

Please note that in the case of pensioner Jane C Cyrus, a Life Certificate was received in November 2012 but was queried due to un-initialled changes thereon.

Since the system had already suspended payments for this pensioner due to the length of time taken to submit a Life Certificate, it is now necessary that a notarized Life Certificate from the Guyana Consulate be forwarded to effect payment.

The National Insurance Scheme wishes to remind overseas pensioners to adhere to the rule of submitting their Life Certificates at least once per year.

Yours faithfully,
