Guyana Foundation focuses on children at Christmas concert

Several dance troupes and singers kept their audience enthralled on Tuesday evening when the non-profit trust The Guyana Foundation hosted its Christmas Concert at the Theatre Guild.

With a stage designed like a slum community, and each performance introduced by children from various underprivileged communities, the foundation reminded its audience to share with needy persons during the festive season.

According to a press release, the audience was entertained by performances from the Classique Dance Company, Kenrick Cheeks, Brian Nobrega, Marlon Nurse and Gillian, Bookie from the Crystallite Dance Group, Zahrah Alli from Naya Zamana, and the Santa Rosa Dancers.

Internationally-renowned singer Paul Cort, accompanied by pianist Maryln Dewar also captivated the audience with several Christmas and patriotic songs while up-and-coming singer Rebecca Xavier performed her single ‘Guyana’s child.’

In her message to the audience, Supriya Singh-Bodden, founder of the foundation, noted that the true celebrities of the concert were the children from the disadvantaged communities some of whom travelled from as far away as Santa Rosa, Region One to participate in the programme.

In keeping with the event’s theme ‘Peace, Love and Unity’, Singh-Bodden appealed to the audience to cooperate to secure a brighter future for all Guyanese.
