GHRA holds fruitful meeting with Sport Minister

The Guyana Horse Racing Authority met with Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, at his Main Street office on Thursday and discussed several topics.

Chief among them was the present status of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority proposed legislation and the racing dates for the rest of the year as well as the early  part of January next year. According to a press release by the GHRA, all in all the meeting was fruitful.  However, two clubs, the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club and Port Mourant Turf Club were not represented.

The release stated that for the benefit of the administrators of the various clubs, as well as the public, it must be remembered that there was an understanding by the administrators of the various clubs on the following issues:-

1. Where a race meeting has been called off because of inclement weather or other special circumstances, then the dub concerned must apply in writing to the Guyana Horse Racing Authority for a new date

2. It was agreed some time ago where a race meeting is called off by a club then that race meeting should be run off after the race meetings already fixed, it would, cause difficulty to any other club

3. Where a club proposes to run off a race meeting on a date not allocated to that club, it should apply in writing to the Guyana Horse Racing Authority for a date

The release went on to state that clubs cannot have race meetings being fixed without the Guyana Horse Racing Authority being informed in writing about it

“We are looking forward to the cooperation of the administrators of the various to abide by the guidelines agreed upon. “It must be made abundantly clear that the Guyana Horse Racing Authority is not opposed to the running off race meetings by any club but the guidelines agreed upon must be followed,” the GHRA stated in the release.
