Student accused of iPhone robbery released on bail

A 17-year-old student was released on $75,000 bail after he was arraigned last Tuesday before Magistrate Leslie Sobers on the charge of robbery with aggravation.

It is alleged that on February 16 at Campbell Street, Grove, Pernel July of Lot 1705 Diamond Housing Scheme, in the company of others, robbed Ishwar Rambaran of one iPhone, a $200 Digicel phone card and $700 in cash, valued $120,900.

July was initially not required to plead to the indictable charge; but after the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied, the teen pleaded not guilty.

The police prosecution said that July had provided investigators with information about the whereabouts of the stolen phone.

Prosecutor Shellon Daniels noted that after the phone was recovered, July allegedly provided a caution statement about his involvement in the robbery.

The prosecution had no objections to bail.
Magistrate Sobers then granted the accused pre-trial liberty in the sum of $75,000.
March 21, was set as a tentative date for the commencement of the trial.

Earlier on Tuesday 17-year-old Oswald Dublin of Craig was found guilty of the same robbery.
