Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday remanded 56-year-old Clifton Thompson to prison after he was charged with assault, which stemmed from him trying to force himself on a 16-year-old girl.

Thompson, of 124 West Ruimveldt Squatting Area, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on April 5, at West Ruimveldt, he unlawfully assaulted the young woman so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

Police Lance Corporal Jomo Nichols objected to bail on the grounds that Thompson forced himself on the girl, in order to engage in sexual activity with her.

No further details about the attack were revealed as the matter was heard in camera at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Thompson, however, was denied bail and the matter was adjourned until May 10.
