Body of GGMC officer found following river collision

The body of missing Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) officer, Patrick Ramkellawan, who went missing after a collision on Saturday night in the Pomeroon River was recovered on Monday.

According to a police press release, Ramkellawan’s body was retrieved at Lillydale, Lower Pomeroon River sometime around 8:50 a
m on Monday.

Ramkellawan, age 49, and of Berbice, was an employee of GGMC’s Petroleum Division. It was reported that  he was tossed overboard when the boat he was in slammed into a fishing vessel in the Pomeroon River. No one else was injured.

In a press release, the Maritime Administration stated “It is alleged that Edroy Gill age 22yrs, Marlon Chappelle age 66yrs, and (Ramkellawan)  age 49 yrs, left a cricket match under the influence of alcohol and boarded a Ballahoo, and while proceeding up the river collided with an alleged fishing vessel which had no lights.”

“The collision caused (Ramkellawan) to be tossed in the river where he immediately went down”, it added.

The organisation said that in addition to police investigations they are currently carrying out investigations.
