Suspect in Brazilian woman’s murder held in Brazil

The suspect in the murder of Bartica businesswoman Elisangla Da Silva Figuerado has been found in Brazilian but she is not yet in the custody of local police, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said.

Persaud, giving an update on the case, told Stabroek News yesterday that the woman was found in Brazil. He said the Guyana Police Force had requested help from the Brazilian police in locating the woman, who is a Brazilian.

Figuerado’s decomposing remains were found in her home at Second Avenue, Bartica on February 10 around 21:15 hrs with her tongue protruding from her mouth.

Stabroek News was later told that the woman’s door was padlocked from the outside. Figuerado owned a money transfer and tele-radio patch business and the suspect was her employee.

Reports are that the two women had a heated argument over money.
