RHYSC Republic Bank camp set to commence July 8

For the sixth successive year the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHYSC) will host their annual Republic Bank Summer Camp at its Area “H” Ground, Berbice.

The camp caters for grade six students preparing for Secondary Schools and would start on July 8. Secretary/CEO of the RHTYSC, Hilbert Foster, said that 60 students drawn from Primary Schools in the Lower Corentyne area will be part of the camp which would be conducted by Senior teacher Rohan Etwaru of the Port Mourant Secondary School and a graduate of the University of Guyana.

Some of the subjects to be taught to students include; Mathematics, English A, English B, Social Studies, Integrated Science and Spanish, while they would also be involved in several lectures on topics of importance like HIV/AIDS, Peer Pressure, Importance of Education, Drug Abuse, Public Speaking and Personal Hygiene.

Foster added that the students would benefit from coaching to become better cricketers from qualified cricket coaches and would be involved in several cricket matches during the five-week camp.

In expressing gratitude to the management and staff of Republic Bank, the long serving Secretary/CEO stated that the RHTYSC was confident that every one of the students at the conclusion of the camp would be fully prepared for secondary school and would be better cricketers who would go on to join various cricket clubs in Berbice.

The top students of the camp would be rewarded with trophies, medals and prizes at the closing ceremony. The club will also host a special mathematics class for 60 Grades 9 and 10 students.

The classes will be held by University of Guyana student, Vidya Ramdass-Batson.
