Since the turn of the century (2001), children from the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) who are preparing to enter Secondary Schools have benefited from a Summer Camp and the Rose Hall Town Branch of Republic Bank is continuing its sponsorship of the event this year

RHTYSC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, MS, said this year’s Summer Camp will start July 15 and end August 9.

The club will cater for up to 60 students drawn from several schools in the Rose Hall Town area including Rose Hall Town Primary, Port Mourant Primary, Belvedere Primary, Cropper Primary, Tain Primary and Auchlyne Primary.

According to the club, the main objective of the Summer Camp is to assist students in making a successful transition from the Primary level to Secondary along with the promotion of the Say No/Say Yes Message, teaching the students the art of playing cricket, the importance of education and discipline along with the importance of being a positive role model.

Foster, who is President of the Berbice Cricket Board disclosed that the classroom work will be conducted by a senior educator employed by the club, while himself and assistant secretary, Simon Naidu, will be responsible for the lecture series.

Cricket Coach Delbert Hicks will also work along with the students in several one-hour sessions as part of the club’s Say Yes to Sports effort.

Classes will be held Mondays to Fridays from 08.30 hours to 12.00 hours, with students being taught English, Maths, Social Studies, Integrated Science, Geography and basic Spanish.

In addition to subjects, the children will also be taught the importance of education, the importance of discipline, choosing friends, suicide/depression, and personal hygiene, manners in the classroom, career choices, public speaking, basic public manners and peer pressure.

Each child attending and successfully completing the camp will receive a school bag and educational materials while the overall Best Student and Top Student in each subject will receive special prizes.

Awards will also be given to the most disciplined student, the most improved student and the student with the best attendance.

Naidu hailed Republic Bank as a long standing supporter of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation and one of the main foundation for its unmatched record of achievements.

He noted that the bank also co-sponsored the RHTYSC Annual Awards Ceremony, its Annual Youth Review Magazine and the Cricket Academy among other programmes.

Interested parents can call the club on telephone number 337 4562 or visit the Area ‘H’ Ground Office to register the child. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club will provide all the necessary educational materials free of cost.
