BCB/Scotiabank Cricket Academy starts Monday

The 6th Annual Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)/Scotiabank Academy for youngsters will bowl off on Monday at the Area “H” Ground in Rose Hall Town.

Seventy-one promising Berbice players were selected by the BCB Junior Selection Committee headed by Leslie Solomon, to participate in the academy. The one-week session will be conducted by coaches Michael Hyles Franco, Winston Smith, Renwick Batson and Albert Smith.

The objectives of the academy are to teach the youngsters good morals and the importance of education along with cricketing sessions that will focus on batting, fielding and physical fitness. Lectures will also be held on topics such as the History of Cricket, drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, captaincy, the importance of discipline, laws of cricket and the role of a sport ambassador. The list of cricketers for the academy reads (Young Warriors) Kassim Khan, Jaleel Jafar, Richard Henry and Kelston Luke.

Selectees are asked to report to the Area “H” Ground with their cricket gear and to be properly uniformed at 8.30am on Monday. A practice match will be organised at the close of the theoretical sessions.
