Lowden defeats Rudy Grant after third set tie-break

Godfrey Lowden overcame Rudy Grant through a third set tie-break in their men’s O35 encounter as action in the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Open continued at the company’s Recreational Club, Kaieteur Street Bel-Air Park on Friday.

Lowden took the first set comfortably 6-2 but Grant quickly responded claiming the second set 6-1. With the winner of the tiebreaker being the first person to record 10 points, Lowden closed out the match 10-3.

Anthony Downes and Jason Andrews continued their dominant displays as they blanked the duo of Seanden David-Longe and Steven David-Longe 6-0, 6-0 in a men’s doubles encounter while Joseph DeJonge and Khalif Gobin advanced to the next round after hammering the Glasgow brothers Nicholas and Jason 6-0, 6-0.

Leyland Leacock and Nicholas Fenty eliminated Andre Erskine and Ronald Murray in their men’s doubles matchup 6-1, 6-2 while Andrew Sawh and Eduardo Arguello progressed to the next round via a walkover from Kris and Viraj Jugdeo.

In the lone ladies divisional matchup, Nicola Ramdyhan came from behind to defeat Afruica Gentle 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
