David-Longe reaches final with upset win over Grant

Stephen David-Longe scored an upset win over Rudy Grant on Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the men’s Over-45 singles category of the Banks DIH `Plus Energy’ Open tennis tournament at Le Meridien Pegasus lawn tennis courts.

David-Longe claimed the first set 6-3 but Grant bounced back to take the second set.

David-Longe would eventually claim the third set 6-4 in the match which lasted more than four hours.And, in a mixed doubles encounter, Shelly Daly and Phillip Squires survived a scare before overcoming Shawna Gentle and Ezra Sue Ho. After losing a close first set 6-7, Daly and Squires came back to win consecutive sets and close out Gentle and Sue-Ho in the semifinals of the Open mixed doubles. Squires later returned in the men’s Open doubles teaming up with Godfrey Lowden to record a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Richard Pitman and Leroy Chapman.
