BK Western Tigers defeated arch-rivals Pele FC 2-0 when action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Premier League Georgetown Zone Playoffs continued at the Tucville Community Centre ground on Friday.
Gavin Wilson broke the early deadlock in the 15th minute for the West Ruimveldt giants in a fortuitous manner.
Lurking inside the 18th yard box, Wilson would latch onto a saved Randolph Wagner right footed effort from Pele custodian Devon Charles to slot home unmarked inside the six yard box.
Western Tigers would double their lead 15 minutes later through a Stellon David effort.
Latching onto a poorly defended corner kick, Davids from inside the 18 yard area placed his volleyed left footed strike beyond the reach of the diving Charles to the bottom left hand corner of the net.
Victorious coach Calvin ‘flu man’ Allen during a post match comment said “The first 28 minutes was excellent. We dominated possession and constantly opened the Pele defence. After scoring twice we started to play lackadaisical”.
“All in all you’re seeing the improvement in every game. Sunday will be a good test against one the better teams in the competition” added Allen
Pele coach Barry Myers in an invited comment said “We lost the game from midfield. When we did rectify the problem it was too late. Our finishing was port and now we will have to go back to the drawing board”.
“Hopefully by Sunday we can rectify the problem and come out with a victory” added Myers.
In the opening fixture, Mocha based side Riddim Squad downed Santos FC 2-0. Centre half Stephon Ramsay and left back Linden Pickett found the back of the net for winners in the 10th and 20th minutes respectively.
The action continues today (Sunday) at the same venue with a slated triple header. The feature contest of evening at 20:00hrs will see home side Fruta Conquerors opposing Camptown FC.
In the mid-card fixture at 18:00hrs, Riddim Squad tackles Western Tigers while in the opening game at 16:00hrs, Pele FC will oppose Santos FC.
