William Simon pleaded not guilty when the charge of possessing a 12-gauge single barrel shotgun on December 25 at 111 Miles, Mahdia was read to him. According to Prosecutor Seon Blackman, the defendant had been passing the Mahdia Police Station on the day in question when he was seen by two police corporals. Simon, he continued, had a salt bag on his back and was acting in a suspicious manner. The officers conducted a search on Simon and found the shotgun in the salt bag he was carrying.

Blackman objected to bail based on the nature of the offence and stated that Simon had given an oral confession to the crime.

Simon, a labourer in Mahdia, was refused bail and is set to return to court on January 9
