Zeelugt dwelling goes up in flames

A dwelling at Zeelugt on the West Bank of Demerara was last night destroyed by fire after a kerosene stove flared up while the owner of the house was cooking.

No one was injured.

“The woman said she was cooking and the kero stove flare up so  she was trying to get it out of the house but the fuel throw away and the fire spread,” Fire Chief Marlon Gentle told Stabroek News.

He explained that because the house was small and made up of old wood it burned quickly hindering chances of firemen salvaging anything. “By the time our guys got there it was burned to the ground we couldn’t do anything,” he added. This publication was told that the dwelling housed a woman and her four children.
