Muslim scholar from India visits

Prominent Muslim scholar Maulana Muhammad Qasim Ashrafi -Dargah Makhdoom Ashraf of India made a two-day stopover visit to Guyana after visiting Suriname and Holland.

A release said that Maulana Qasim Ashrafi was a guest of the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex and the Guyana United Sadr Islamic Anjuman. On his first visit to Guyana, the Sunni scholar and his wife were accompanied by a seven member delegation led by Hadji Abdussattaur Janki of Holland.

They held discussions with officials of ACIC, aimed at finding ways of supporting the work at the Centre of Sunni Islam. They were also updated on the work of ACIC and had a first-hand view of the current expansion works there.

The scholar committed to make arrangements for another Sunni scholar from India to come and work in Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. He also indicated that he will make regular visits to Guyana.

The delegation also met with prominent Muslims during the visit and returned to Holland via Suriname on Monday.
