Manawarin farmer remanded on attempted murder charge

A farmer was on Tuesday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrates Court charged with attempted murder.

It was alleged that on February 1 at Manawarin, Lower Pomeroon River, 24-year-old Peter Paul George wounded Lloyd Allen of the same village.     According to the facts, George and Allen were involved in an argument when George attacked and wounded Allen with intent to murder him.

George, who was not represented by an attorney, was not required to plead to the indictable charge read to him by the magistrate.

Police Prosecutor Khrisnadatt Ramana told the court that as a result of the wounds that were inflicted on the body of Allen, he was taken to a city hospital and was still admitted as a patient there.

The case was adjourned until March 24 when George will return to court.
