Army outflanks Western Tigers

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) edged BK Western Tigers by a 1-0 margin when the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Premier League continued on Wednesday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.

Following a goalless opening half, midfielder Eusi Phillips opened the score in the 65th minute with a sublime strike.

Deployed in the heart of the midfield, Phillips unleashed a 28-yard right-footed volley that flew into the lower right-hand corner of the net, giving Western Tigers custodian Derick Carter simply no chance.

The army unit almost doubled their advantage eight minutes later when a Selwyn Isaacs right-footed free-kick from just outside the centre of the box was acrobatically parried to safety by the outstretched hands of the West Ruimveldt unit’s custodian.

Carter was again in action in the 83rd minute as he denied forward Sherwin Caesar brilliantly in a one-on-one situation from within the centre of the penalty box, after the speedy attacker was played in by a Delwyn Fraser pass.
