Four accused of burglary spree further remanded

Four young men from the East Coast Demerara were further remanded to prison when they made their second appearance in the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with several counts of burglary.

Jamal Braithwaite, 18; Anthony Warde, 19, Anthony Austin, 19, and a 15-year-old juvenile were all denied bail when they first appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse on Tuesday, February 18 and were remanded to prison.

It is alleged that on the night of October 9, 2013, at 364 Damon Avenue, Mackenzie, Linden, the four accused broke and entered the dwelling house of Tracy Hossanah and stole a gold chain, a gold finger ring and $12,000 cash, amounting to $52,000 in total losses. The quartet is also accused of stealing a gold chain and a BlackBerry phone, which was valued in total at $76,000 and was the property of Michael Hossanah. Further, they were also accused of stealing a laptop computer valued $150,000 and a cellular phone valued $15,000, representing a total value of $165,000, and which was the property of Modesty Hossanah.

It is also alleged that the men broke and entered the premises of Sheldon Noel at 198 Mora Street Mackenzie, Linden, during the night of Friday, October 9, 2013, and stole Noel’s BlackBerry cellular phone valued at $45,000 as well as a pair of Clarke’s footwear, valued $8,000 and a pair of sunglasses valued $2,000 belonging to James McLean.

It is further alleged that on the same night, the four accused broke and entered the dwelling house of Diane Milling at 230 Mora Street, and stole therein a pair of gold earrings valued $3,500; a tooth brush valued $200 and $2,500 in cash, representing a total of $6,200.
