Mentore had `disqualified’ himself from being member of GCB

President of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Alfred Mentor yesterday said that he had formally disqualified himself from being an executive member of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) after failing to attend three consecutive executive meetings.

The former national Under-19 player told Stabroek Sport during an exclusive interview yesterday that he had indicated to the GCB  his unavailability to fully commit to executive post he had held at the time citing his commitments to his business and  the DCC as factors which hindered his ability to function as a member of the GCB.

Mentore explained that he has not been a part of the board since June of last year and his failure to attend three of the board’s meeting led to  automatic debarrment as a member.

“I am not disqualifying myself for the future but at this present time I don’t think I can serve at the highest level,” said Mentore who did not rule out serving the GCB in the future.

He admitted that as of now he is unable to find the time to play significant roles in all the aforementioned areas.

The DCC president once headed the Cricket Development Committee of the GCB where he was technically involved for approximately two years during the period when cricket was facing a series of injunctions and other legal issues.
