2010 knifing case dismissed after VC refuses to give evidence

Otis Fraser who was accused of attempting to murder Sherwin Grant in 2010 had his case dismissed yesterday shortly after the complainant refused to give evidence against him in the High Court.

The allegation is that on October 22, 2010 at Georgetown, Fraser of 119 East Ruimveldt wounded Grant with intent to murder him.

According to reports, on the day in question the two men were involved in a heated argument after which the defendant went to the police station to make a report.

Upon his return to where the argument occurred, Grant who by that time had armed himself with a knife approached Fraser who quickly equipped himself with a brick.

A scuffle ensued between the two and Fraser who managed to relieve the complainant of the knife then dealt him several stab wounds about his body.

Stabroek News understands that without Grant’s evidence, the state could not pursue the matter further.

He was on trial before Justice Navindra Singh, while State Prosecutor Natasha Backer presented the court’s case. Fraser was unrepresented.
