Accused in chip vendor’s killing identified by witness

Plantain chip vendor Sherwin Simon yesterday testified that murder accused Troy Collymore was the man who fatally stabbed his brother with an ice pick.

Collymore is accused of killing Jermaine Simon, who was also a plantain chip vendor, on August 1, 2012, during an argument. He is facing trial before Justice Franklyn Holder and a jury in the High Court.

Resuming his testimony yesterday, Sherwin told the court that he was walking along America Street with his brother when they saw Collymore. He stated that the two men got into a fight and Jermaine was stabbed. He added that a crowd quickly gathered around them and he said, “Oh my God! They kill my brother!”

He recounted that they had just finished selling chips at the seawalls and were on their way to the Plaisance Car Park when the attack occurred.

He stated that he was the one who carried Jermaine to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died the next day.

“I’m dead, dead sure I saw everything that went down on my brother,” he told defence attorney Euclin Gomes under cross-examination yesterday.

Attorney Diana Kaulesar is presenting the state’s case.

The trial continues today.
