Former Diamond Hospital CEO committed suicide

Former Diamond Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and assistant to the Minister of Health, Kevin Mana, died last month after he ingested poison.

Mana, 32, of Lot 20 De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara, died after he ingested a poisonous substance on the morning of July 25, at his home.

Relatives said that the man complained about being under a lot of pressure and even resigned from his job as the personal assistant to the Minister of Health, Dr Bheri Ramsaran. That relative said that Mana was at home complaining of chest pains moments before he drank poison.

However, relatives were only alerted to Mana’s act, after the fact. He was immediately rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, then to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and later referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed while being treated.

Relatives said they will never know why the man resorted to suicide. Mana also held the post of CEO at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre up until December of 2013.
