Construction worker charged with stealing $1.5M intended for house-lot purchase

A construction worker was yesterday accused of misappropriating $1.5M given to him to purchase a house lot.

Robert Forrester, of 536 La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, denied that on May 19, at Georgetown, he fraudulently converted $1.5M to his own use and benefit after being solely entrusted with the money by Anson Weeks to purchase a house lot.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry asked whether the facts were as charged. Prosecutor Michael Grant responded in the affirmative after which no further details of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.

Forrester was subsequently placed on $150,000 bail and the case was adjourned until October 3, when statements are expected to be submitted.
