Construction worker battered woman after refusal to have sex – court told

A construction worker was yesterday charged for allegedly assaulting a woman who refused him sex.

The court was told that on September 30, at South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Collis Duke, 30, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Wynette Tappin and caused her actual bodily harm.

Tappin told the court that she was beaten by Duke because she refused to have sexual intercourse with him. “M’am, he cuffed me several times on my body. He kicked me, tripped me and throw me to the ground,” she said.

Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick objected to bail and stated that Duke cuffed Tappin about her body, which resulted in her suffering abrasions to her shoulder and her sides.

Duke, who said he is the father of one child, was denied bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman, who set the next hearing for October 9th at the Linden Magistrates’ Court.
