Man injured in shootout with cops

A man said to be a known armed robber was in a critical condition up to press time after being involved in a shootout with the police at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.

The wounded man was identified as Steve Mohamed whose criminal records dates as far back as 2009. It is unclear how many times he was shot but due to the severity of his injuries he had to be transferred to the Georgetown Hospital by ambulance from the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital at Diamond, where he had been taken initially by the lawmen.

Stabroek News was told that ranks were conducting a patrol in a section of the East Bank Demerara community referred to as `Four Corner’ when they came under fire. Fire was returned and Mohamed was struck.
