Fruta Conquerors arrest Police in GFA Stag Beer competition

Fruta Conquerors successfully ascended to the top of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer first division league, arresting the Guyana Police Force (GPF) by a 6-0 margin on Sunday at the Tucville Community ground.

Kevin Barrow was the main scorer for the home side as he recorded a double in the 50th and 62nd minutes respectively. He was supported by solo strikes in the 11th, 21st, 44th and 68th minutes respectively by Dwayne Lawrence, Eon Alleyne, Jermaine Junior and Delon Williams.

With the win, Fruta Conquerors are now level on points with Pele who are also on 28 points. Their claim to being sole leaders of the competition at this point is due to their superior goal difference. GPF with the loss remain in the fourth position on 15 points.

In a match witnessed by a small gathering, Fruta Conquerors would open the scoring through a Lawrence penalty kick conversion to the lower left hand corner, following a clumsy challenge within the centre of the six yard area by the custodian.

The lead would then be increased 10 minutes later as Alleyne netted, rifling his left-footed effort down the centre of the goal, after cutting back from outside the right side of the 18 yard area.

It would then become 3-0 one minute before the half time interval compliments of a Junior finish into the lower left hand corner, following a one-on-one situation within the centre of the box with the shot-stopper.

The misfortunes would continue for the lawmen in the second period as Barrow scored five minutes upon the resumption, placing his headed attempt down the middle of the goal from within the centre of the box, after latching onto a deflected right side cross.

Barrow would then make it 5-0, 12 minutes later compliments of a left-footed effort from within the right side of the box, into the left hand corner.

The easy victory would be sealed six minutes onward as Williams netted from the penalty mark with a powerful right-footed finish into the roof of the net.

In the second matchup, third positioned side Sunburst Camptown and cross-town rivals Northern Rangers of Kitty played to a 2-2 draw. Sherwin Vincent led the way for the seventh positioned side with a double in the ninth and 57th minutes.

Securing a point for the Campbellville based unit was Devon Forde and Wendell St. Hill who netted in the 51st and 74th minutes correspondingly. The action continues today at the same venue with a doubleheader.

The feature contest of the night will be a clash of sides occupying the opposite ends of the table when second positioned unit Pele FC will face cellar occupants Beacons FC from 20:00hrs.

The opening matchup of the card at 18:00hrs will witness a clash of the relegation threatened sides when seventh placed Flamingo FC tackle sixth positioned Northern Rangers.20141015table
