Flights from areas with Ebola outbreaks should be stopped

Dear Editor,

No one is certain of the specific reasons countries are allowing people in from West Africa, but it probably has to do with maintaining international trade and diplomatic relations. Although these things are certainly important in maintaining stability, it has to be seen now that Ebola is moving faster than efforts to contain it. If we do not manage to stamp it out soon, we could be left battling it forever like HIV and AIDs. Just pause for a second and imagine a world where we are under constant threat of contracting this virus – rather like one of those apocalyptic movies.

The world, the US, and especially our very own, sweet Guyana, needs to shift priority and stop all flights from areas with outbreaks, and those with connections there as well. The airline industry will obviously be disrupted, but we cannot eradicate this virus if we continually allow it to spread to other parts of the world.

Yours faithfully
