Linden man shot, injured in traffic light robbery

A Linden man is now a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after escaping with his life during a traffic-light robbery at Eccles Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Sancarlos Sukhu, 30, of Kara Kara, Linden, was shot and injured to his right ankle and shoulder on Wednesday when the vehicle he was a passenger in was attacked by a lone gunman.

According to the police, the vehicle was being driven by Hai San Wong, 65, also of Kara Kara, when it stopped at the traffic lights. “During this time a man armed with a firearm came up to the vehicle and held them up and demanded cash,” the police said.

The vehicle’s occupants complied with the demand and handed over a sum of money.

However, the gunman was apparently dissatisfied with the sum and demanded more before subsequently discharging rounds. At least two of the shots hit Sukhu. The bandit managed to escape.

Sukhu was rushed to the GPH for medical treatment and according to a source, the man was moved from the hospital’s theatre yesterday morning after having undergone a successful surgery.

The police’s investigations are underway.
