What the Windies players did is unpardonable

Dear Editor,

What the West Indies team has done by aborting the tour of India is tantamount to holding the WICB, WIPA, BCCI and the Indian and West Indies fans to ransom for the sake of money. It is greediness to the highest extent.

As an ardent fan of West Indies cricket I am appalled and very angry at the decision of the team to abandon the tour after the fourth one day match. There is no justification for what they did and they should be fired immediately.

Now that Marlon Samuels is saying that he did not agree with the decision and I want to believe some of the younger players also might have been in disagreement but had to stay quiet for fear of victimisation, then the onus is now on the WICB to find the culprits and banish them from West Indies cricket.

What is galling and hurts the most is that the West Indies team is languishing at number eight in the ICC rankings in both tests and one day cricket yet these so called professionals are demanding more money for their incompetence. They have the highest failure rate of the top eight cricketing nations of the world. What is wrong if the WIPA and the WICB are now trying to lift the standard of our cricket by professionalizing our regional game and paying ninety of our regional players a salary? Or is it the senior players want the whole hog? Come on, give me a break.

As I said what the players have done is unpardonable and the WICB should move quickly to weed out the rotten eggs and build a new team of players who are disciplined, loyal and committed to West Indies cricket and not mercenaries whose only aim is to make a quick buck.

Yours faithfully,
Imtiaz Baccus
